Missouri residents who are responsible for paying child support may be interested in a new program that just began in Nebraska. If the program continues to show that it works well in Nebraska, it might find its way into other states as well.

Earlier this month, Nebraska began using an online payment option for non-custodial parents making child support payments. The new payment system is run through the Nebraska State Child Support Payment Center, and payments can now be made by non-custodial parents who live within the state or elsewhere. The program is done through Secure Vault Payments, and it does not require those who are paying to reveal their bank routing number or bank account number to the state.

Nebraska is the first state to offer child support payments through Secure Vault Payments. Because funds are verified and secured at the time of the transaction, payments are more reliable, benefitting the state and parents. The payments to custodial parents are fast and usually completed within just two business days.

Although most of Nebraska's child support payments are already done electronically, officials expect this new program to increase the number of payments received electronically.

While Missouri does not yet have this system in place, it may become an option in the future. It is fast, easy and low cost to all those involved. Its use in Nebraska is surely being monitored by other states that may be interested in helping custodial parents get the money that they deserve in a timely manner.
